Jeni updates us with some much needed parking info!

    OVER FLOW PARKING INSTRUCTIONS

JUST IN CASE of the unlikely event that the parking lot at the Marriott is overfilled, Don”t Panic! Proceed to the secondary parking, get a receipt and take it to Programming Ops, Miami Room to be reimbursed if you are a guest of the convention.

Here are directions to alternative parking:

If there is no parking at the LAX Marriott (and you do not have a room), circle the block (turn right at Airport Way, right at 98th, then right when you reach the T, and right again back onto Century Blvd) and just before you get back to the LAX Marriott heading West on Century Blvd. you will see Park Air Express Airport Parking (a tall green sign at ground level). You can park there for $11.95. There are no in-n-out privileges. This is the closest parking to the LAX Marriott.

Please report parking problems to the Loscon staff in the Boardroom on the ballroom level. In-n-out privileges only go with those staying in the hotel.

We now have a page for folks who are confirmed exhibitors in our “Make Room! Make Room!” at Loscon 39. That page is at http://developerinterest.org/make-room-39-confirmed-exhibitor-info/ . There is also a link at the top of this page.

For folks who want to exhibit but have not confirmed with us yet,  the page for you is http://developerinterest.org/make-room-make-room-at-loscon-39/ . This is also linked at the top.

For more information about Loscon, go to http://www.loscon.org .

Loscon is Thanksgiving Weekend, November 23rd-25th, 2012 at the LAX Marriott.

Los Angeles Airport Marriott, 5855 W. Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045

You buy tickets at the door. Tickets get you admission to the entire convention, not just the Arduino panel. They are $35 for a one-day pass, or $60 for the weekend.

The convention includes the “Make Room! Make Room!”, a whole floor of the hotel full of evening parties, panels with famous science-fiction authors, a dealer’s room with everything from books and videos to jewelry and costumes, an art show, a dance and an ice cream social, a masquerade (costume contest) and tons of other special events. It’s like a 3-day long party!

    Won’t you join us there!

    Hi folks!
Due to losing our funding, and general low attendance and low donations, we are suspending regular monthly meetings for now. We are still putting on “Make Room! Make Room!” at Loscon 39 in November, and we are talking to a space in Pasadena about moving the meetings there. We are also considering re-branding, as the word “developer” in the name might be scaring some people off. Please watch this space for more details as they become available.

    Title: DIG August Meeting
Location: LASFS HQ – 6012 Tyrone Ave, Van Nuys, CA 91401
    Link out: Click here
    Description: Hello Makers!

We had a little hiatus in July due to the holiday, but we are back on August 1st! DIG is your local Los Angeles area DIY / Maker / Developer meetup group, and we are meeting again this Wednesday at the LASFS HQ in Van Nuys!

We encourage makers of mostly tasteful projects of just about any type to come out and show off their stuff at this month’s meeting. In the past we’ve had all manner of videogame programs, cheese making, several comic artists, chipmusic / game music, 3D videography, gemology, music synthesizer software, gold mining, charcoal production, cel phone app programming, vinegar making, arduino and microcontroller projects, homemade robotics, craft projects, amateur radio projects, model building, and much, much more! We love all sorts of projects, even if they aren’t completely done, so bring what you are working on and show it off! We’re here to give you the feedback you need to feel empowered and complete your projects.

We are also in the planning stages of our yearly “Make Room! Make Room!” exhibition for Loscon 39 in November, and are starting to reserve spaces for that as well!

So bring your projects, or just bring yourself! Meeting is Wednesday, August 1st at 7:30 pm!

    Be there AND be square!

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Description: Greetings Makers!

It’s time once again for our Developer Interest Group monthly meeting! DIG is your local DIY / Maker / Developer (etc.) group in the San Fernando Valley. This Wednesday’s DIG meeting is, as always at the LASFS HQ in Van Nuys at 7:30pm.

Some of us went to the Maker Faire up in San Mateo and saw some exciting stuff and made some great contacts for our “Make Room!” at Loscon in November (P.S. we need makers!) We might have a few things from there to show and tell. The folks from the upcoming OC Mini Maker Faire were there too and have quite a few pictures to share on the OC Maker Faire website http://ocminimakerfaire.wordpress.com/ . Don’t forget to check out their event in July!

I also performed at “Handmade Music” at CrashSpace last month, and can say a little bit about that as well.

Did anybody make it out to LayerOne?

Thursday and Friday there is “Frequency”, a two-day chipmusic festival at BIP in Silverlake: http://www.facebook.com/events/412942518724152/ .

Of course, E3 is also this week, for those of you in the game industry. Nothing maker about that, but some of us will be very busy!

At this Wednesday’s DIG meeting, we’re expecting lots of great people and lots of great projects! That’s why you should bring your projects or just bring yourself! Be there AND be square!

Description: Hello again Makers! This Wednesday, May 2nd is the next meeting of DIG, the Developer Interest Group, your local Los Angeles area DIY / Maker / Developer group! Be sure to come and show off your projects, artworks, experiments, etc., or just come to gawk and chat.

It is another exciting month for makers of all types! Later this month (May 19th & 20th) is the Bay Area Maker Faire in San Mateo! We’ve still got some stickers and badges from last year’s faire that we’ll be giving out at this Month’s DIG meeting.

For those of you interested in computer security, the LayerOne conference is May 26th and 27th in Anaheim.

Of course, there are the usual monthly maker events. CrashSpace holds their public meeting on the 8th, and the W6TRW swap meet is on the 26th. I don’t know if 23b Shop in Fullerton is holding their potluck this month as it is the same time as Maker Faire.

At this Wednesday’s DIG meeting… well, we never know what is going to be there, do we? I’ve got an interesting homebrew device from Japan that gives a video output (of sorts) to a Nintendo DSi, some lessons learned about glass cutting and window glazing, and of course the latest version of Rhythm Core Alpha! Perhaps you have something super awesome that you’ve just been dying to share with the world? Now is the time… we love to see works in progress!

So, Wednesday night! Be there AND be square!

    Description: Greetings Makers!

This Wednesday, April 4th is time of another exciting meeting of DIG, the Developer Interest Group, your local DIY meetup for Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley!

Thanks to everybody who came out to last weekend’s LA Science Faire Mini Maker Faire at the Pasadena Convention Center. We were there representing DIG and had a great amount of interest in the group. We had a great time, and it was a wonderful opportunity to connect with a lot of like-minded folk in the local maker community. Fourty makers and groups were featured, from Unicorn Bicycle makers, to the LA 3D Club, the local First Robotics Competition Team, folks from the USCLA Mechanical Engineering Team, and of course it was lovely to be right next to our friends from CrashSpace, whose booth was always packed!

Speaking of CrashSpace, they have had two teams competing on the new Discovery Channel show “Unchained Reaction”, created by the MythBusters, where two teams compete to create the greatest “Rube Goldberg”-style contraption! Their first team, Team CrashSpace was in episode one, where they fought a tight battle and lost. Their second team is Team Fail Fail Fail Win and will be appearing in episode 6! It is an awesome show, everybody should check it out!

The LA Robotics Meetup has had an incredibly large number of events in March that we couldn’t even hope to make all of, and we got to see the NAO robot! 23b Shop had their monthly potluck. CrashSpace had their public meeting and many other tutorials and meetups. See our calendar for more details!

We’re slowly gearing up for our next “Make Room! Make Room!” at Loscon 39 in November! We’ll be putting out a call for makers soon!

    Be there AND be square!

    Cheers,
    Tim
